Add voice recordings to your journal entries. Lifecraft will automatically convert your speech to text and insert it in your journal entry.

Create a recording

1. Select a journal entry.
2. Tap the More button (···) above the journal entry.
3. Tap the Insert button in the More view, then select Voice:

Start recording

Click the Record button to start recording.

Click the Pause button to pause recording. 

Click the Resume button to continue recording.

The Replace button appears if the recording is NOT scrolled to the end. If you start recording, the new audio will overwrite the existing recording.

Play recording

Click the Play button to start playback.

Click the Pause button to stop playback.

Click a Skip button to jump forward/backward.

Drag the Meter View to navigate to a different part of the recording.

Transcribe recording

1. Select the Transcription button at the bottom of the window to transcribe the recording.
2. As you speak, the transcribed text will appear in the text box.
3. When the recording is saved, the text will be inserted in the journal entry.

Save recording

1. Click the Save button to save the current recording.
2. The recording will be inserted in the journal entry at the cursor position. If there's any transcribed text, it will also be inserted in the entry text.

Edit a recording

Open a recording

1. Click a recording in the entry text to open the recording.
2. If the Mini Player appears (see below), click the Expand button to open the full-size window.

Overwrite a recording

1. Drag the Meter View to the part of the recording you want to overwrite.
2. Click the Replace button. The new audio will overwrite the existing recording.

Trim a recording

The Trim feature is used to delete the start or end of a recording.

1. Click the Edit button and choose Trim Edges.
2. Drag the Meter View so the section of the recording you want to delete is to the LEFT or RIGHT of the center line.
3. Click the Trim Start button to delete the START of the recording (up to the center line).
4. Click the Trim End button to delete the END of the recording (after the center line).

Delete a section of a recording

The Delete Selection feature can be used to delete any part of a recording.

1. Click the Edit button and choose Delete Selection.
2. Drag the Meter View so the center line is at the START of the section you want to delete, then click the Selection Start button.
3. Drag the Meter so the center line is at the END of the section you want to delete, then click the Selection End button. The selection will be highlighted in yellow.
4. Click the Delete Selection button. The highlighted section will be deleted.

Mini Recorder/Player

The full-size recording window can be shrunk down to a mini version that appears at the top of the journal entry.

Mini Recorder

1. Tap the More button (···) above the journal entry.
2. Tap the Insert button in the More view, then select Voice.
3. If the full-size recorder appears, click the Shrink button to switch to the Mini Recorder.
4. Click the Record button to start recording.
5. To finish recording, click the Stop button. The recording will immediately be inserted in the journal entry.
6. To cancel recording:
   • On your iPhone/iPad, tap the Cancel button above the mini recorder.
   • On your Mac, click the button at the right side of the mini recorder.

Mini Player

1. Click a recording in the journal entry text. If the full-size player appears, click the Shrink button to switch to the mini player.
2. Click the Play button to start playback. To pause, click the Pause button.
3. When the recording reaches the end, the Mini player automatically dismisses.
4. To cancel playback:
   • On your iPhone/iPad, tap the Cancel button above the mini player.
   • On your Mac, click the button at the right side of the mini player.

Shortcuts

On your iPhone/iPad

1. Press and hold on a recording in the journal entry text.
2. A menu will appear:
   • Play - play the recording in the mini player.
   • Edit - edit the recording in the full-size recorder.
   • Copy - copy the recording so it can be pasted somewhere else.
   • Share - share the recording by Mail, AirDrop, Messages, etc.
   • Delete - delete the recording.

On your Mac

1. Right-click or control-click on a recording in the journal entry text.
2. A menu will appear:
   • Play - play the recording in the mini player.
   • Edit - edit the recording in the full-size recorder.
   • Share - share the recording by Mail, AirDrop, Messages, etc.
   • Delete - delete the recording.

Permissions

Lifecraft requires access to the microphone and speech recognition features on your device.

On your iPhone/iPad

• Open Settings > Privacy & Security > Microphone and make sure Lifecraft is selected.
• Open Settings > Privacy & Security > Speech Recognition and make sure Lifecraft is selected.

On your Mac

• Open System Settings > Privacy & Security > Privacy > Microphone and make sure Lifecraft is selected.
• Open System Settings > Privacy & Security > Privacy > Speech Recognition and make sure Lifecraft is selected.
