Lifecraft includes import & export features for backing up your data or transferring it between apps.
To learn how to import your journal entries from Day One, see:
Import from Day One
Export
There are two main export types: Lifecraft Backup and PDF. A Lifecraft Backup is saved as a ZIP file, which can be imported back into Lifecraft: all of the entries and the original journals will be restored. A PDF file is useful for printing or sharing multiple formatted entries.
On your iPhone, iPad
- Navigate to the Journal List.
- Tap and hold a journal name. If you want to export all of your entries, tap and hold All Entries.
- A menu will appear. Choose Save backup or Export PDF.
- After you choose the export type, the export file will be created and a sharing window will open so you can save or share the export file.
On your Mac
- Select a journal in the Journal List. If you want to back up all of your entries, select the All Entries journal.
- Choose File > Export > Lifecraft Backup or PDF.
- Save the file to your Mac.
Text Export (Mac)
Each entry will be exported to a separate text file (rtf). Entry photos are not exported unless they're embedded in the entry text.
- Select one or more journals/entries. You can hold down the shift/command key to select multiple journals/entries. To export all of your journal entries, select "All Entries" in the journal list.
- Choose File > Export > Text
- Choose a folder where you want the text files exported.
Import Lifecraft Backup
On your iPhone, iPad
- Select a journal entry or the Entry List, then tap the More button (···) at the top of the screen.
- Select App Settings in the More view to open the Settings.
- Select the Import / Export settings, then select Import Lifecraft Backup.
- Choose an import option as shown in the above image.
- Tap Choose Backup File and select the backup file.
On your Mac
- Choose File > Import > Lifecraft Backup.
- Choose an import option as shown in the above image.
- Click Choose Backup File and select the backup file.
Import Text Files (Mac)
A new journal entry will be added for every text file that you select. If a text file includes a date as its file name (e.g. “4-23-20” or “April 23, 2020”), the new entry will be assigned to that date. If the file name doesn’t include a date, you can choose to have the entry assigned to the date the file was created or modified.
- Select the Journal where you want to import the new entries.
- Choose File > Import > Text
- Choose one or more text files.
