Moving your journal entries from Day One to Lifecraft is easy. Most of your information will automatically transfer, including:
- Journals
- Entry text and styles
- Photos
- Tags
- Locations
- Weather
- Star setting (appears as ❤️ in Lifecraft)
What you'll need
Lifecraft for iOS (2.4 or later) can import entries from Day One (2.x).
Lifecraft for Mac can import entries from either Day One (2.x) or Day One Classic.
On your iPhone, iPad
Export from Day One (2.x)

- Go to Day One > Settings > Import/Export.
- Select the journal you wish to export (the default is "All Journals").
- Set your desired date range (the default is "All Entries").
- Tap Export Day One JSON (.zip)
- You may see a dialog asking whether to "Include Media?". Choose Include Media (.zip).
- A file sharing sheet should appear. Tap Save to Files and choose a location for the export file. For example, you might save it to your "Documents" folder on iCloud Drive.
An export file that looks like "[date]-DayOne.zip" will be saved to your iCloud drive.
Import into Lifecraft
- Select a journal entry or the Entry List, then tap the More button (···) at the top of the screen.
- Select App Settings in the More view to open the Settings.
- Select the Import / Export settings, then select Import Day One Entries.
- If your Day One journal entries normally start with a bold title line, select Auto Title First Line.
- Select the weather units (Fahrenheit or Celsius).
- Tap Choose Day One File. A file chooser will appear.
- Locate the "[date]-DayOne.zip" file that you saved earlier and select it.
Lifecraft will first try to unzip the export file. This may take a while depending on the size of the export file. After the file is unzipped, you'll see the progress as the entries are imported into Lifecraft.
When the import process is complete, navigate to your Journal List and you should see all of the journals that were imported from Day One.
On your Mac
Export from Day One (2.x)

- In the Journal Pane, click the journal you want to export. If you want to export all journals, click All Entries.
- Choose File > Export > JSON.
- Make sure the File Format is set to "JSON in Zip (.zip)".
- Save the Zip file to your computer. Remember the file location.
Import into Lifecraft
- Choose File > Import > Day One 2 (JSON).
- An options sheet will appear. Follow the instructions, then click Choose File.
- Select the Zip file that was created in the Export step above.
When the import process is complete, navigate to your Journal List and you should see all of the journals that were imported from Day One.
Day One Classic
Change your system language to English
Day One Classic doesn't export dates in a standard format (unlike Day One 2.x). If your Mac is set to a non-English language, follow these steps before you export from Day One Classic. After you've imported the entries into Lifecraft, you can change your system language back to its original setting.
- Choose Apple menu > System Settings > General > Language & Region.
- Select English as the Preferred language. If you don't see English listed, click the + button to add it.
Export from Day One Classic (Mac)
- Choose File > Export.
- Choose “Markdown (.md)” for the File Format.
- Your entries will be saved to a folder on your computer. Remember the folder location.
Import into Lifecraft (Mac)
- Select a journal in Lifecraft.
- Choose File > Import > Day One Classic (Markdown).
- An options sheet will appear. Follow the instructions, then click Choose File.
- Select the FOLDER created in the Export step above.
The imported entries will appear in the selected journal.
